Mary Peskey, age 69, of Huron, died Wednesday morning, April 27, 2016, at her home. Her funeral service was held at 3 PM, Sunday, May 1st, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Children's Miracle Network or HRMC Dialysis Unit.
Mary Joanne Lokhorst was born on November 23, 1946, to Peter John and Josephine (VandeWeerd) Lokhorst at Rock Valley, Iowa. She grew up in the Rock Valley and Sheldon, Iowa area and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1965. Following graduation she worked at a grocery store in Sheldon and the Ritter Elevator in Ritter, Iowa.
On February 14, 1969, she married Robert Peskey at Sheldon, Iowa. They made their home in Huron and Mary continued to work as a clerk and cashier, working for Lewis Drug, O.P. Skaggs, Haley's Grocery Store, 7-Eleven, Cenex Cain Creek, West Park, R&R and one year at Wal-Mart. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, bowling, knitting and volunteering for the Boy and Girl Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Kay Boer, Diane Rauls, and Marlene Bonner; and one brother, Dennis Altena.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert "Bob" Peskey; three children, Renae (Joe) Sefrna of Tea, Roxi (Brad) Thompson of Waterford, Michigan and Ryan (Melissa) Peskey of Hartford; four grandchildren, Hope and Gunnar Thompson, Charlee and Axton Peskey; two brothers, Jim (Lois) Lokhorst of North Sioux City and Donny (Cheryl) Altena of Storm Lake, Iowa; one sister, Sandi (Tim) McDonald of Sheldon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
