Mary Alice (Dormady, Maas) Bartel, age 92, of Huron, passed away November 9, 2021, at Avantara-Huron.

Mary Alice was born on June 19, 1928, in Ashland, Wisconsin to Peter and Adeline Dormady.  The Dormady family moved to Huron in 1942, where Mary Alice graduated from high school and attended Huron College.  She married Ivan J. Maas on May 1, 1948, in Huron. Mary Alice was a successful businesswoman, having operated Maas Day Care in Huron for many years, and, after retirement, co-managed a lodge in the Black Hills with Ivan before they returned to Huron, where Ivan died in 2006.

Mary Alice married Elmer Bartel in 2008 in Wolsey, where Elmer and Mary Alice were active members of St. John's Lutheran Church for many years.

Mary Alice is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter, Carol "Carrie" Ann (Peter) Peterson, of Bismarck, ND, two brothers, and one sister.

Mary Alice is survived by a son, Carl (Lauri) Maas; daughters, Jane (Steve) Nordaker, Lynn (Vernon) Peterson, Susan (James) Ernsting, and Ellen (Terry) Rasmussen; one brother; five sisters; three step-sons; two step-daughters; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After a long life in Huron and Wolsey, Mary Alice also leaves many friends in those communities.

The immediate family will hold a private memorial.  No public service will take place due to continuing Covid-19 concerns.
