Mary Ann Gross, age 83, of Huron, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, October 5, 2026, while at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 12 at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Doland.
Visitation with family present will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church of Huron.
Mary Ann Gross was born January 5, 1943. to Sam D. and Elizabeth (Kleinsasser) Gross at Doland, South Dakota. At the age of 5, they moved to the home farm at Hitchcock, South Dakota. When she was 9 years old, she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was born again. She was baptized and became a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Brethren Church of Doland, South Dakota.
She received her education from Sunshine Grade School, Hitchcock High School, Grace Bible Institute of Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Huron College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in elementary education. She taught at Wessington Springs, South Dakota from 1966-1969, at Minneota, Minnesota from 1970-1979, and at Westbrook Christian School from 1979-2006. After WCS closed, she went to work at Cecilee House, a group home, in Worthington, Minnesota, for 11+ years. She also did in-home work with HSI from 2006 to January 2022.
Mary Ann was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Westbrook, Minnesota, where she taught Sunday School, Kids Club, was an officer of the Ladies' Fellowship, church treasurer, financial secretary, deaconess and social chairman. She had also been a volunteer for Hospice of Murray County and at Mary and Martha's Food Pantry of Westbrook.
Mary Ann moved to Huron in February of 2022, because of health issues. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was on the Music Committee, and served as assistant treasurer, church clerk, and an officer in the Ladies' Fellowship.
Her loves were working with children and young people, visiting her family, serving at Immanuel Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church, reading, and listening to audio books, and watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Marcella Malikowski and Gladys (Dave) Hofer; her brothers, Vernel (Ruth Hofer) Gross and Clifford (Rosaline Waldner) Gross; her sister-in-law, Naomi Waldner-Gross; three nephews, Ryon Gross, Curtis Gross and Douglas Gross; and one niece, Shawna Spain.
Mary Ann is survived by her brothers and sister, Duane Gross of Tulare, LeRoy (Barbara) Gross of Huron, Allen (Karen) Gross of Menno, Marlyce Spain of Oak Island, North Carolina and Victor (Twila) Gross of Hitchcock; her brother-in-law, Larry Malikowski of Huron; 21 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend that she worked with for 15 years, Hanna Kleeberger.
