Maretta Martin, age 81, of Hitchcock, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, December 2, 2021, at Avantara – Huron, following a brief illness.
Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 11th at the Bonilla Presbyterian Church, Bonilla. Burial was in the Altoona Cemetery, Hitchcock.
A prayer service was held at 6:30 PM Friday at the Kuhler Funeral Home, which was live-streamed.
Maretta Hasart was born July 14, 1940, to Thomas and Edna (Lobban) Hasart at Miller, South Dakota. She grew up and attended grade school at Cedar School and Spring Hill, and graduated from Ree Heights High School in 1958.
On November 6, 1960, Maretta married Roger Martin at the Congregational Church at Ree Heights. Through the years, they made their home in Hitchcock, Wessington Springs and Ree Heights. They returned to Hitchcock in 1970. To this union, there joined four children, Jacki, Debbie, Doug and Rhonda.
Surviving her are her children, Jacki (John) Jacobson of Ida Grove, Iowa, Debbie (Jeff) Pageler of Sisseton, South Dakota, Doug (Teri) Martin of Hitchcock, South Dakota and Rhonda (Brian) Assmus of Morgantown, West Virginia; six granddaughters and five grandsons, Theresa Zimmer, Josh (Noy) Zimmer, Kristyn Zimmer, Ryan (Megan) Jacobson, Bryce (Ashley) Pageler, Brooke (Shawn) Powell, Morgan (Alex) Reyelts, Adam Assmus, Shanell (Kyle) Assmus, Clay (Kylie) Martin and Kylee Martin; seven great-granddaughters and nine great-grandsons, Syanne Holman, Javin Holman, Tarian Holman, Gianna Zimmer, Drake Zimmer, Aliza Zimmer, Lucas Zimmer, Braelynn Powell, Ava Wiegman, Nova Wiegman, Everett Pageler, Jaxton Pageler, Elliott Reyelts, Ethan Reyelts, Tytus Assmus and Everly Assmus; three sisters, Shirley (Don) Hofer, Linda (Phil) VanDervoort and Marlene (Jeff) Christman; two brothers, Marvin (Pat) Hasart and Willie (Barb) Hasart; and three sisters-in-law, Delores Zender, Lana (Ray) McDaniel and Claire Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her in-laws, Marvella (Harlen) Peterson, Wendell Martin, Ronnie (Virginia) Martin, Larry Martin, Tom Zender and Russell Martin.
