Mabelle Barthelman, age 87, of Huron, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the Huron Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 21st at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Bonilla Cemetery.
Mabelle Hope Tipton was born October 20, 1928, to Ray and Mabel (Dague) Tipton at Wessington, South Dakota. She attended the Tipton Country School, then graduated from Bonilla High School, and later graduated from Watertown Beauty School.
On April 1, 1947, Mabelle married Cecil Louis Barthelman at Huron. Mabelle worked at Hazel Mahone's Beauty Shop. She also worked in sales at JC Penney for fifteen years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 67 years. Mabelle was a member of Hope/Loyalty Circle for many years and recently moved to the Golden Circle. She was also a member of the Huron Rovers Camping Club and the Bakers Dozen Club.
Mabelle enjoyed camping, fishing and boating with her family. She had a love for baking, especially chocolate chip cookies, bread, and pumpkin and apple pies. She also liked working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Mabelle and Cecil wintered in Texas for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter in infancy, Marilyn; her husband, Cecil on July 9, 1998; and her six brothers and sisters, Darold Tipton, Evelyn Morse, Carl Tipton, Maxine Kloss, Nellie Eldeen, and Eva Mae Eldeen.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Paulette (Al) Lowitz of Melbourne, Florida; three sons, Leland (Maurita) Barthelman of Kearney, Nebraska, Roger (Lora) Barthelman of Sioux Falls, and Darwin (Wanda) Barthelman of Huron; ten grandchildren, Brad (Chloe) Lowitz, Adam (Katy) Lowitz, James (Stephanie) Barthelman, Amber (Nathan) Buhrman, Heather Barthelman, Nicholas Barthelman, Madison Barthelman, Tara (Ben) Bigalke, Dustin Mattke, and Morgan Barthelman; seven great-grandchildren, Hailey Lowitz, Avery and Harper Lowitz, Josey Barthelman, Graven and Easton Buhrman, and Kaylee Bigalke; and many nieces and nephews.
