M. Jean Hansen, age 80, of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
M. Jean Westmoreland was born March 30, 1939, to S.P. and Allien (Crumpton) Westmoreland, at Greenville, South Carolina.
She later met Max Hansen at Greenville and became Mrs. Max Hansen on June 27, 1958. They celebrated 61 years of marriage.
In 1964, Jean with her "Maxie" moved to Huron, South Dakota, where she worked at various jobs including Midcom, The Inn, Randall's, the South Dakota State Fairgrounds, the Chef Café, Petro Plus, West Park and Jack Links. To her, the most important job to her was being a loving housewife and mother to her three sons and grandchildren. Family meant everything to her, as it should!
Jean enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and working in her yard. She was co-builder of the #35 Hansen/Larsen Shadetree Special, a vintage racecar.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Don, Jim, Lewis and Jack; and one granddaughter, Angela.
Jean is survived by her husband of 61 years, Max; three sons, Mitchell, Michael, Marcus; four grandchildren, Justyze, Shelby, Matthew, Kirsten; and three sisters, Marilyn (Leroy) Pruitt, Shirley (Duree) Propes and Peggy Wilson.
