Lyle B. Rowen, age 90, of Wessington, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at his home with his family by his side.
Visitation for Lyle and Hazel Rowen was held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 30th at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Masonic and Eastern Star services were held at 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon.
Their funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Wessington. The service was live-streamed through our website.

Lyle Burton Rowen, Sr., was born June 22, 1931, in Hand County, South Dakota, to Earl and Loretta (Heller) Rowen. He attended country school for eight years and graduated from Wessington High School in 1949. He married Hazel Beach on November 12, 1950, in Wessington, South Dakota. They farmed their entire life in the Wessington area.
As a young man in high school, Lyle was very active in 4-H and was a member of a 4-H Championship Team that won second in the nation and a trip to Denver. Farming and cattle were his life.
Lyle was active in the community and church. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as trustree and elder. He was a board member of Harvest States Cooperative Board, St. Lawrence. He was a Farmers Home Administration Board member of Beadle County and served nine years on the Farmland Building Supply. Lyle was very active on the Sports, Inc. Board and on the gym committee when they build the community gymnasium in the early 60's. The Masonic Lodge was a very important part of Lyle's life. Lyle was a life member of Wessington Masonic Lodge #107, where he served as Worshipful Master. He served as Grand Master of Masons of South Dakota in 1985-1986. He was a life member of York Rite, Scottish Rite, and member of Yelduz Shrine, and was awarded the DeMolay Legion of Honor. He was a 33 rd Degree Mason.
Lyle is survived by his children, Jeanne (David) Johnsen, Fargo, ND; Marla (Lee) Lichty, Wessington, SD; Lyle, Jr (Rhonda) Rowen, Miller, SD; and Glenn (Lesa) Rowen, Wessington, SD.
Memories of Lyle will be cherished by his fourteen grandchildren, Candice Smith, Locust Grove, GA; Jeff (Sadie) Johnsen of Green Bay, WI; Kellie (Steve) Haaby of Fargo, ND; Heather (Dennis) Nichols of Bennington, NE; Lance (Kirsten) Lichty, Bennington, ; Megan (Brian ) Huizenga, Wessington, SD; Brad Parmely, Highmore, SD; Eric Parmely, Miller, SD; Callie Jo (Lance) Moser, Wessington, SD; Betsy (Rafael) Clemente, Wessington, SD; Kayti (Robert) Ammerman, Cordova, AK; Stephanie Huntsinger, Wessington, SD; Melissa (Nic) Hentges, Minneapolis, MN; and Mallory (Dan) Held, Waconia, MN; 39 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Lyle is also survived by two sisters, Joan Daugherty, and Barb (Bob) Lager; one brother, Larry (Deanne) Rowen; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Beach and Shirley Rowen.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Hazel, his parents; one brother, Keith Rowen; two brothers-in-law Ivan Daugherty and Martin Beach; great-granddaughter, Anna Hazel Johnsen, and three nephews Barry Lager, Rick Daugherty and Jay Beach.
Lyle loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow. His children were his pride and joy. He was the happiest when he was working, and everyone else was too!
