Lucille Pierson, age 91, of Huron, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her life was celebrated at 6:30 PM, Wednesday, May 15th at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Lucille Fern Escherhausen was born on May 8, 1928, to George and Helen (Jacobs) Escherhausen at Miller. She attended country school in the Miller area.
On September 27, 1952, Lucille married Otis Dwain Pierson in Miller. They farmed several years at Wolsey. In 1956, they moved to Miller where they owned and operated an A&W Root Beer Drive Inn for a number of years. In the late 60's, they started and operated the Miller/Pierson Greenhouse and Flower Shop where Lucille became a self taught floral designer. In 1997, they sold the greenhouse to their son and his wife. They also owned and operated gas stations in Pierre and Miller as well as an apartment building in Pierre. In the 80's, they moved the greenhouse business to Wolsey. In the early 90's they moved to Huron where they owned and operated the Huron Mobile Home Estates and an apartment building. They later sold the trailer court and moved to a house. Lucille later moved to Yale to live with her family. In January 2013, she moved into Violet Tschetter Memorial Home until it closed and recently relocated to SunQuest HealthCare Center.
Lucille enjoyed family picnics with her family and listening to county western and gospel music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Otis on December 11, 2004; her brother, Leo (Hazel) Escherhausen; a brother-in-law, Glen Pierson; and three sisters-in-law, Doris Boldt, Helen Polly and Vera Peak.
Lucille is survived by her son, Ron (Carla) Pierson of Yale; her grandson, Tyler Dwain Pierson of Yale; one step-granddaughter, Christina Guthrie and her family of Huron; three step-grandsons, Clare Mendel and his family of Huron, Ernest Mendel and his family of Sioux Falls and Shawn Mendel and his family of Worthing; step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
