Louise Mendel, age 87, of Overland Park, Kansas and formerly of Cavour, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 in Overland Park. Her funeral service was held at 10 AM Friday, August 14th, at Kuhler Funeral Home with her grandson, Jordan Derksen, officiating. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Louise Grace Mendel was born January 13, 1928, at Bridgewater, South Dakota to David H. and Anna M. (Wollman) Glanzer. When she was just six weeks old, she moved with her family to a farm in Beadle County. She grew up on the family farm, attended rural school at Sheffield School and graduated from Huron High School in 1945.
She married Noah Mendel on March 3, 1946, at Salem Church in Bridgewater. Following their marriage they lived in Freeman for one year and then moved to a farm in Beadle County four miles north of Cavour which they purchased in 1947. They lived there until 1986 when they moved to Cavour. Following Noah's death in 1995, Louise lived in Cavour, in Rapid City for two years, and since that time had lived in the Kansas City, Missouri area.
Preceding Louise in death were her parents and her husband Noah.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her sons, Tom Mendel of Huron, and Steve (Sandra) Mendel of Rapid City; her daughter, Debra (Roger) Derksen of Kansas City, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Shawn, Ernest, Clare, Christina, Stephana, Jay, Mark, Kody, Britni, Anne, and Jordan; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Joyce) Glanzer of Huron; and one sister, Delores (Norman) Hofer of Carpenter.
