Loren Nelson, age 70, of Cavour, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at his home, with his family by his side.

His funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 20, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Friends and family welcome.

Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Bensley-Rounds Post # 280 Iroquois American Legion.

Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 19, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present during that time. A prayer service and time of sharing was held at 6:30 PM, Thursday at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Loren Nelson was born October 24, 1952, to Palmer and Lucy (Gockowski) Nelson in Huron, South Dakota.  He grew up in the Huron area, and graduated from Huron High School in 1970.

In 1970, Loren joined the United States Navy and served as a sonarman aboard the submarine USS Haddock and was honorably discharged in 1976.  He was a member of Bensley-Rounds Post # 280 Iroquois American Legion.

On November 9, 1974, Loren married Cordelia Ann Moore in Watertown. They made their home in the Cavour area. She passed away on September 2, 2002.

On June 14, 2005, Loren married Rhonda Sather in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Loren worked as a Telephone Technician for Bell Telephone Company, after 32 years he retired in 2008. He had an incredible green thumb and loved gardening, he also liked to cook with his personally grown vegetables. He enjoyed hunting and was a very good boxer in his youth. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. The highlights of his life were his grandchildren, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Cordelia Nelson; two brothers, Clarence Nelson and Charley Nelson; five sisters, Adeline Bowen, Leona Lundeen, Debra Baruth, Phyllis Loeffelbein and Delores Lounsbury.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Rhonda Nelson of Cavour; his children, Lori Leigh of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Justin and Tammy Nelson of Madison, Terry Nelson of Sioux Falls, Randi Sather of Austin, Texas and Rachelle and Ryan Robinson of Sioux Falls; and his grandchildren, Jacob and Zackery Leigh, Landon and Lucas Nelson, Braxton Amundson, Jada Madsen and Kathryn Strohm and Sophie and Chloe Robinson.

He is also survived by three brothers, Virgil and JoJo Nelson of Aberdeen, Phillip and Gloria Nelson of Morehead City, North Carolina and Ronnie and Ruth Nelson of Tripp; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
