IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois
Yost
June 13, 1932 – December 2, 2021
Lois Yost, age 89, of Iroquois, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 6th at the Faith Mennonite Church, rural Iroquois. Burial was in the church cemetery.
My loving wife, our mother, and grandmother, Lois June Yost was born June 13, 1932, to Cornelius Henry and Alverta (Nightengale) Schmidt at Galva, Kansas. She peacefully passed the morning of December 2, 2021, after a few weeks of suffering, reaching the age of 89.
Girlhood was spent in the Moundridge, Kansas, community attending country schools. She owned her burden of sin while walking home from school and received forgiveness. On November 14, 1944, Lois was baptized by Min. Harry Wenger at Hesston, Kansas, into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.
In her early 20s, Lois cooked at Mercy Hospital at Moundridge, Kansas. Della, a registered dietician and dad's sister, wrote the orders and Lois did the cooking. Even the doctors enjoyed her baking.
She was married to me, Conrad Yost, October 19, 1958, at Hesston, Kansas, by Min. Jacob N. Yost. To this union were born three daughters and one son. They made their homes at Durham, Kansas, Fredonia, Kansas, and then they moved to Iroquois, South Dakota, in February of 1966. God blessed them with 63 years together sharing their love and labor.
Mother was hard working and constant, helping Dad with the farming, and caring for us children. She loved to cook, and found enjoyment in the outdoors in her garden and flowers.
In 2003, Dad and Mom enjoyed a term of service at the Moundridge Girl's Unit making lasting friendships.
The loss of their daughter, Bonnie, left them sorrowing. Mom often expressed her longing to be reunited someday.
The Bible and her salvation were precious. She was concerned about the salvation of her children and grandchildren. She chose a sacrificial lifestyle.
In 2013, she, together with Dad, moved to the Meadowlane Villa. They enjoyed many happy times with those that touched their lives.
Mom's ready smile won her many friends.
A special thank you to all of Mom's caregivers, especially those of the recent weeks.
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to share her last hours. She bade us each goodbye by name and had no fear of the crossing. She died with a smile.
Those left to cherish fond memories are her sorrowing husband, Conrad; two daughters, Connie and Patrick Unruh and Quinda and Bruce Penner; one son, Rodney and Edith Yost; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darla and Luke Marten and Rosalie and Daniel Koehn; three sisters-in-law, Vada Schmidt, Verna Schmidt and Betty Schmidt; one brother-in-law, Ordo Holdeman; Dad's family, Pearl Smith, Virginia Yost and Loretta Yost; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; one brother-in-law; one daughter, Bonnie; and one son-in-law, Roger Nichols.
