LaVonne Katherine Hofer was born October 27,1932, to Jake P. and Lydia (Walz) Gross, at Yale, South Dakota. She grew up in Yale and attended Yale grade schools. LaVonne put her faith in the Lord and trusted Him as her personal Savior as a young girl. She was baptized July 14, 1946, and became a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church. Her parents then moved to Huron where she attended and graduated from Huron High School in 1950. She went to Northern State College and received her degree for teaching in rural schools.

On March 19, 1951, LaVonne married Allen Juraine Hofer at the Bethel Church Parsonage. They made their home on a farm near Yale for 10 years before moving to Huron. LaVonne taught school for five years during the time they were on the farm. In Huron, LaVonne worked at the Tschetter-Hohm Clinic for twenty-six years. After moving to Arizona, she worked at doctor offices and managed a retirement apartment complex with her husband.

While living in Huron, they became members of the Bethesda Church, where LaVonne directed the choir, sang solos and trios, and was active in children and youth ministries. When Allen and LaVonne moved to Arizona, they became members of Grace Bible Church at Sun City, where she was a member and served the Lord in choir, Grace Notes, Women's Ministries and various other areas of the Church Fellowship. In 2006, they moved to Tea, South Dakota, and became members of Living Hope Community Church. In 2010, they moved back to Arizona and were again members of Grace Bible Church.

LaVonne loved her family and gathering family and friends together. Growing up, her dining room table was filled with delicious food, lively conversation and lots of laughter. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was a priority. LaVonne had an adventurous, caring spirit and so enjoyed playing games, fishing, camping and exploring wherever their camper would take them. LaVonne and Allen traveled back to South Dakota for years to spend time making treasured memories with their children and grandchildren.

So thankful for having shared her life are her two daughters, LaVae Tschetter of Huron and Sonja and Todd Peters of Omaha, Nebraska; two sons and their wives, Tim and Janice Hofer of Aberdeen and Terry and Lori Hofer of Winter Garden, Florida; eight grandchildren, Suzanne and her husband, Seth Bauder, Tommy and his wife, Amy Nickel, Eric and his wife, Rona Peters, Ryan and his wife, Abigail Peters, Mark Peters, BrehEnna and her husband, Adam Herther, Daniel Hofer and Mandie Whitmer; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Neil Jacob, Anna Adali, Luke Thomas, Melissa Grace, Ben David, Ella Claire, Logan Todd, Blake Christopher, Carter Hope, Gabriella Marie, Miles David, Daelon Joseph, Caiden Nicolas, Adleigh Dawn and Elijah Robert.
