LaVila Hook, age 98, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at her home.

Her funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 8th at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Huron Hockey Association.

LaVila Goldene Brenner was born August 8, 1921, to Roy and Nettie (Kervink) Brenner at Canton, South Dakota. Her father worked with the railroad, and the family moved to Huron when LaVila was very young. She grew up in Huron, and was crowned Tiger Queen in 1940. She graduated from Huron High School.

On May 21, 1943, LaVila married Dwain Hook at Oregon. While Dwain was attending flight school with the military, Lavila attended Comptometer Machine School. After Dwain's honorable discharge from the military, the couple made their home in Huron, where Dwain worked for the railroad. LaVila became a homemaker; raising their two sons and sold Avon for many years. Later, she also worked as a "lunch lady" for Huron Public Schools.

LaVila loved life and brought a smile to everyone she met. She enjoyed bowling in local leagues and many bowling tournaments. She also liked to golf. LaVila cherished her grandchildren. LaVila was also a part of the Huron Hockey Association, she was known for being one of the first "Hockey Grandmas".

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dwain; one sister, Eloise Haney; and one brother, Harris Brenner.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her two sons and their wives, Dennis and Sandy Hook of Pierre and Rod and Lori Hook of Huron; four grandchildren, Daryla (Mark Adamczak) Halverson of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Joshua (Tiffany) Hook of Houston, Texas, Parker Hook of Huron and Jackson Hook of Huron; four great-grandchildren, Taryn (Chris) Goron of Parrish, Florida, River Halverson of Rapid City, Caden Hook of Cyprus, Texas and Sutton Hook of Cyprus, Texas; two great-great-grandchildren, Leighton Goron and Sailor Goron; and her long-time special friend, Harlan Ferguson of Huron.
