Laura McKown, age 52, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her memorial service was held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 24th at the Huron Christian Church.

Laura Anne Marie McKown was born August 19, 1967, to Russell Hochhalter and Betty (Trautman) McKown at Hoven. She attended school in Wolsey. In 1983, she moved to Iroquois where she graduated from Iroquois High School.

Laura met Chad Fawcett while working at the South Dakota State Fair in the fall of 1996, they had many exciting adventures and with them, a daughter in July of 1997, Brooke.

Through the years, Laura had many jobs including; bartending at Don Juan's and Hurst's Corner, housekeeping and some bookkeeping. Her favorite job ever year was working at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.

Laura competed in many pool and dart tournaments. She enjoyed crocheting with her mother, drawing with her children, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Laura was like a mother to many.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, Anthony McKown of Huron; her daughter, Brooke (Taylor) Winegar of Huron; two grandchildren, Taten Lee Meidinger and Michael Scott Fawcett and a grandson on the way; her awesome step-father, Roger Sass of Huron; her step-mother, LeaEtta Carmoody; five brothers, Dan Munce, Casey (Starla) McKown, James (Jessica) McKown, Shawn (Tammy) Sass, all of Huron and Dale (Jessica) Hochhalter of Sioux Falls; five sisters, Amy Sass of Iowa, Shellane Trautman of Wyoming, LauraLea Johnson of Nebraska, Molly Nelson of Mitchell, and Charla Euwing of Madison; eight uncles, Edmond (Sandy) Trautman, Jack Trautman, Richard Trautman, Dale Trautman, David (Terri) Trautman, Edward Macauley, Harlen (Helen) Hochhalter and Wayne (DeMaris) Hochhalter; three aunts, Vera (John) Federer; Goldie (Dennis) Sterk and Madora (George) Barh of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Lee Pae; her sister, Molly Nelson; her mother, Betty Mae Sass; her father, Russell Hochhalter; one uncle, Bill Trautman, four aunts, Cathy Trautman, Jean (Donald) Anderson, Connie Trautman and Martha Macauley; and grandparents, John and Ruth Trautman.
