IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kevin
Minske
July 13, 1962 – July 12, 2021
Kevin Minske, age 58, of Huron, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at his home.
His memorial service was held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 16th at the First Presbyterian Church. His service was live-streamed through the church's Facebook page.
Kevin M. Minske was born July 13, 1962, to Eldon and Evonne (Timperley) Minske, in Huron. He grew up in Huron, attended St. Martin's Catholic School and graduated from Huron High School in 1980.
On August 8, 1987, Kevin married the love of his life, Jill Marie Ames, at the First Presbyterian Church. They lived their entire life together in Huron, together with their daughter, Marissa Taylor Ames Minske.
Kevin had many hobbies. He enjoyed smoking different kinds of meat with different kinds of wood in his smoker, always trying to reach that "liquid meat" perfection. He was a self-taught computer expert and enjoyed helping others with their computer questions.
Kevin and his dad had so much in common. They loved to go West River deer hunting and East River pheasant hunting each fall. They both loved NASCAR and they read the same kind of paperback books that they shared back and forth. Kevin was an avid reader, until he had a massive stroke at the University of Minnesota on August 30, 2018; at that time he lost his ability to read and the peripheral vision in his right eye, which ended his driving career.
Kevin spent the majority of his life working for the City of Huron Water Treatment Plant as a Class 3 Chemist. He was highly intelligent and excelled in chemistry and mathematics. He later transferred to Parks & Rec where he enjoyed teaching the summer help how to become future "good employees".
He was a walking calculator that could spit out math answers faster than you could enter them into a calculator. He loved history and said that at one point he thought he would have liked teaching it. You could ask him almost anything about WWI, WW2, the Korean War, or Viet Nam, and Kevin could tell you many stories. Chances were good that when you turned the TV on, you were watching AHC, the American History Channel. NOT the All Hitler Network.
Saying Kevin loved NASCAR was an understatement, NASCAR was a passion for Kevin. He would announce that he would be unavailable during race times. He got to see the Daytona 500 in Florida and NASCAR cup in Michigan and loved to reminisce about those races.
Kevin was a big dog lover. His two boys, Ruger and Zorro, enjoyed his homemade treats made out of sliced dehydrated turkey. He never met a dog that didn't love his treats. The "boys" were his constant companion, always at his side until Mom came home to cook supper. He even loved the little kids, Brodie and Suze, but rarely admitted it out loud.
He was preceded in death by his father; Eldon Minske; his mother-in-law, Darleen Ames; his brother-in-law, Tom Ames; his sister and brother-in-law, Bob & Elizabeth Richeson; and his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 34 years, Jill Minske of Huron; his daughter, Marissa Minske; his mother, Evonne Minske of Huron; his brother, Doug (Jody) Minske of Huron; his uncle, Ron (Barbara) Timperley of Rapid City; his aunt, Ruth Ann Minske of Huron; his niece, Ashley Richeson of Raton, New Mexico; his brother-in-law, Martin Ames and his sister-in-law, Deb Ames, both of Huron; his aunt, Roseann Crenshaw of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and many cousins.
