Obituary

Kevin Hinners, age 42, of Huron, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Avera McKennan Hospital at Sioux Falls.

His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 9th at the American Lutheran Church.  His funeral service was live-streamed though the Kuhler Funeral Home website. 

Kevin Jay Hinners was born February 4, 1979, to John and Diane (Nelsen) Hinners at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived at Marengo, Iowa, where Kevin started school. In July of 1985, the family of five moved to Huron, South Dakota, where Kevin graduated from Huron High School in 1997.

While in high school he was involved in Choir, Drama Club, 4-H, Madrigals and All-State Junior Honors Choir and All State Choir. He received the top choir award his senior year, and his name is on the plaque at the high school to this day. He gave 4-H demonstrations and was involved with the 4-H Performing Arts Troupe for four years. While doing all the activities in high school, Kevin also worked at the Crossroads as a dishwasher.

After high school, Kevin went on to college. Northern State College was where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in music. During the summers, Kevin worked as a counselor at the Outlaw Ranch at Custer, South Dakota. He also worked at McDonald's in Aberdeen and Huron.

After graduating from Northern State College, he moved back to Huron and started work for the Center for Independence.

On June 3, 2017, Kevin married Amanda Lee Shannon at Huron.

Kevin loved singing, watching the Vikings and being around friends and family. He had a big heart and would help anyone if he could. Kevin volunteered with the Special Olympics.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Hinners on September 10, 2021; paternal grandparent, Harmon and Wilma Hinners; and maternal grandfather, Howard Nelsen.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda Hinners; his son, Dallas Shannon; his mother, Diane Hinners; his maternal grandmother, Fern Nelsen; one sister, Anita (Nathan) Fischbach; one brother, Travis (Heather) Hinners; his niece and nephews, Taryn and Kasey Fischbach and Carter and Gavin Hinners; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
