Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Barber, age 73, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. His life was celebrated at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 3rd at Hurst's Corner and continued throughout the day. Ken requested that memorials be directed to the Beadle County Humane Society.
Kenneth King Barber was born July 9, 1945, to Daulton and Marjorie (King) Barber at Wessington Springs, South Dakota. He grew up in the Wessington Springs area and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1963.
He worked as a glass installer most all of his life, working at various glass shops, including Fair City Glass in Huron. In 1998, Ken started his own glass business "Ken's Glass and Mirror" in Huron. He was a proud business owner and was able to share his talents with his son and grandsons.
In his free time, Ken was known as a sharp shooter. He enjoyed hunting, especially prairie dogs and deer hunting at the family lodge "Deer Camp." He also liked trap shooting and reloading shells for his own use and for his friends. His straight aim abilities trickled down to shooting pool. Ken was a tournament winner numerous times and enjoyed sharing the sport with his grandsons.
Ken was an avid fan of dirt track racing. He followed his favorite driver, Brian Diede, to as many dirt tracks as he possibly could. Along with the dirt track tour, Ken and his partner, Cheri, would set up their camper to spend their weekends with friends and family racing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harold Barber, Ward Barber and Lila Teeslink.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his partner, Cheri Wiegel of Huron; two sons, Travis Barber and Nicole Ingle of Huron and Kurt Barber of Rapid City; Cheri's two sons, Luke Kasperson of Sioux Falls and Travis Kasperson of Huron; five grandchildren, Brandon Barber, Jaden Barber, Karlie Barber, Morgan and Josh Keating and Samantha Arnott; great-grandson, Kollen Keating; and his dog, Smoke.
