IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katrina
Shelton
January 2, 1940 – February 6, 2026
Katrina (Stahl) Shelton, age 86, of Huron, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Huron Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial visitation was held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 11, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Katrina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — affectionately known as “Gigi.”
She was born and raised on a farm in Seward, Illinois. After attending cosmetology school, she married Richard Shelton on August 15, 1959, and together they began a lifetime of adventures.
Throughout their many moves, Huron, South Dakota, became their final home. Katrina’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-own a rental business before she purchased and operated the Dairy Queen in Huron. She later opened a second Dairy Queen in the mall. After selling those businesses, she founded A Touch of Country, which she expanded twice and successfully operated for 16 years before selling. Even after retiring, she continued working as a buyer for several years — a testament to her creativity and work ethics.
Katrina was active in PEO, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Jaycees, and she cherished her time playing cards with friends. She was admired for her timeless sense of style, her talent for decorating, and her gift for hosting gatherings filled with warmth and laughter. Her “Garden Club” friends became like family — lifelong companions who shared joy, creativity, and countless memories. It was with them that “Wanda’s Pancakes” were born — a treasured family recipe that continues to bring loved ones together across generations.
Above all, Katrina’s greatest joy was her family. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Katrina is lovingly remembered by her children, Belinda (Paul) Cernick of Rice Lake, WI, Kent (Laurie) Shelton of Huron, SD, Tina (JC) Salley of Rapid City, SD and Amy (Stacy) Goergen of Huron, SD; along with 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Shelton; her parents, Garelt and Evelyn Stahl; her brother and sister-in-law, Garelt and Lois Stahl; and her granddaughter, Savannah Cernick.
