Kathleen Louise Wells was born May 15, 1937, to Theodore and Barbara (Maddux) Wells, in Pueblo, Colorado. Kathleen attended school there and graduated from Pueblo County High School in 1955. Kathleen met Melvin Wieting while he was stationed at the US Army base in Fort Carson. Colorado and they were married on May 27, 1955, at Pueblo, Colorado. The couple lived in Pueblo for twenty years before moving to the Wieting family farm near Hitchcock, where they farmed until retirement.  They then moved to Huron in 2010.

Kathleen was a stay-at-home mother for the first 30 years of their marriage. In 1986, she began work as a Certified Nursing Assistant for The Violet Tschetter Nursing Home in Huron, SD.  She was a dedicated employee there for 27 years before her retirement.

Kathleen was a very active member of the churches she attended during her adult life.  Staying active in her local church was very important to her. While attending Bethesda Mennonite Brethren Church in Huron she organized and led AWANA meals on Wednesday nights faithfully for over 20 years.  She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and served in many leadership roles during her tenure. Her and Melvin were also 40 year members of Gideon's International.

Kathleen enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading and cooking. She also loved visiting with people. One of Kathleen's greatest pastimes though, was attending the sporting and extra-curricular events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen was preceded in death by; her parents Theodore and Barbara; her husband Melvin, in 2022; her daughter Sherry Edwards in 2023; her brother Paul Wells; and her siblings Nancy Jo and Theodore who died as children.

Grateful for having shared in Kathleen's life are her four children, Mel (Rosemary) Wieting of Minneapolis, MN, Jodene (Brent) Decker of Huron, Rochelle (Phil) Wipf of Wessington Springs and Terry (Lori) Wieting of Huron; 15 grandchildren, Ray Edwards, Jr., Joy (Darrell) Dalke, Theo (Lesa) Edwards, Amanda Ormonde, Paula (Ben) Wiebe, Andrew (Lisa) Wieting, Kim Wieting, Melissa (Zach) Blum, Amber (Chad) Erdmann, Eric (Katie) Decker, Natalie (Joshua) Bartel, Mallory Wipf, Tristan (Carmen) Wieting, Joshua Wieting and Karilyn Wieting; and 25 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Ray Edwards; sister-in-law, Esther Wells of Pueblo, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
