Kathleen Melstad, age 82, of Huron, died Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service wwas held at 2 PM, Tuesday, September 27th, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.
Kathleen Harriet Jensen was born on December 2, 1933, to Harry and Kathrine (Grankjar) Jensen at her parents' home near Hayti. The family moved into Hayti and she graduated from Hayti High School in 1951. She was employed at the Community State Bank in Hayti prior to her marriage.
She married Robert "Bob" Melstad on December 31, 1953, and they made their home in Huron.She was employed at several businesses in Huron during those years including Huron Telco FCU, Huron Area Senior Center and retired from the Huron Clinic.Following retirement, the couple spent their winters in Arizona for several years. Bob passed away in 2000.
On July 6, 2002, she married Vernon Timperley of Huron. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and on the financial committee as well as the Sonshine Squad.Kathy was also an active volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Vernon; three children, Mike (Marilyn Meinke) Melstad of Red Wing, Minnesota, Kim (Galen) Waldner of Carpenter and Robin (Martin) Jarrett of Madison; Vern's children, Debra (Joe) Byrne of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Steven (Cindy) Timperley of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Chris (Joan Bennett) McCartney-Melstad of Boston, Massachusetts, Anna McCartney-Melstad of Abuja, Nigeria, Austin (Lis DeSaussure) McCartney-Melstad of Springfield, Virginia, Evan (Cat Reibel) McCartney-Melstad of Los Angeles, California, Sara (Mark) Trampe of Omaha, Nebraska, Kristin (Tim) Bauslaugh of Spearfish, Katie (Erik) Lohmann of Sioux Falls, Alison (Samuel) Williams of London, England, Nick (Caitlin Iverson) Jarrett of Chaska, Minnesota and Stephanie Jarrett of San Marcos, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Ryder McCartney-Melstad, Annie McCartney-Melstad, Eleanor McCartney-Melstad, Donovan Trampe, Vivian Trampe, Malachi Bauslaugh, Ainsley Bauslaugh and Vera Lohmann; Vern's four grandchildren, Amy Timperley, Jeff (Jacquie) Timperley, Danielle Pullis and Steven Byrne; and Vern's six great-grandchildren, Sawyer Timperley, Wyatt Timperley, Maxwyl Timperley, Owyn Timperley, Lewys Timperley and Zakkary Pullis.
She is also survived by her sister, Helen Lee of Cottonwood, California; her brother, Eldon (Joanne) Jensen of Worthington, Minnesota; her sister-in-law, Elda Rae Jensen of Watertown; and her brother-in-law, James (Corrine) Melstad of Pierre.
Kathy was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob; a daughter-in-law, Kim McCartney; her parents; four brothers;Kenneth, Leo, Verner and Leland; a sister Elayne; and a nephew, Mark Jensen.
