Obituary

Karin Schumacher, age 50, of Wolsey, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018, at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab at Mitchell. Her funeral mass was celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 9th at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.
Karin Marie was born January 29, 1968, to James Felix Knife and Peggy Lee Bowers, at Valentine, Nebraska. She grew up in the White River, South Dakota area. She assisted with health care in nursing homes, and then became involved with food service and childcare. After dropping out of high school, Karin later returned to get her GED and then moved to Bismarck, North Dakota to attended college. There she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
While in Bismarck, she met and married her first husband, Robert Pickett. They later moved to Crow Agency, Montana, where she worked in law enforcement at Hardin, Montana. After their divorce, Karin moved to Winner, South Dakota, where she managed restaurant and owned a bar called "Riskys." She then moved to Pierre, where she met and married her second husband, Mark Olander, they divorced in 2006.
While in Pierre, Karin met Gabriel "Gabe" Schumacher in 2008. While dating, they moved to Rozet, Wyoming. Karin and Gabe had a food service business while residing in Wyoming. They were married March 27, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church at Chamberlain, South Dakota. In 2017, they moved to Wolsey, South Dakota. After moving to Wolsey, Karin could not continue their business due to her fight with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kateri Rose Knife; her father, James Felix Knife; her step-father, Roy Moran; all of her grandparents, Felix and Amelia Knife and Harold and Pearl Bowers; and her aunt, Charlene Nash.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Gabe Schumacher of Wolsey; two granddaughters whom she raised as daughters, Alaysha and Asia Knife; her mother, Peggy Moran of Mitchell; three sons, Alexander James (Judy) Pickett of Montana, Robert Johnson (Tanisha) Pickett of Montana, and Cedric John (Meta) Pickett of Huron; ten grandchildren; six siblings, Tonya (Rich) Copeland, Les (Vickie) Sherwood, Misty (Kelly) Wright, Henry (Rose) Moran, Harold (Audra) Moran, and Berton (Cassie) Moran; and many nieces and nephews.
