Judy Bartelson Stombaugh, age 87, of Huron, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at SunQuest Health Care Center. Her memorial service was held at 2PM, Sunday, July 31st, at Hitchcock United Methodist Church.
Judy Rasmussen was born in Hardburly, Kentucky, on April 23, 1929, to Martin and Alma (Callahan) Rasmussen. As a baby, Judy moved to South Dakota with her family to Kirk, a small community close to Lead. Judy was raised by the Willis and Rachel Reynolds family of Rochford.
In the 1970's, Judy went to floral school in Denver and worked in the floral business. She was also an activities director at the Custer Nursing Home for three years. She owned and operated JuDee's Café of Custer for twenty years. Judy was active in the Custer Chamber of Commerce, Republican Women, BPW, Gold Discovery Days, Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off. Judy qualified for the World Chili Cook-Off four times.
Judy and Earl Stombaugh were married January 7, 1995. They lived on a ranch east of Buffalo Gap.
She is survived by her three children, Sharon (Harvey) Tschetter of Hitchcock, Kate (Ken) Coppess of Shelly, Minnesota and Charly (Connie) Goehring of West Hills, California; three step-children, Grant (EnJu) Stombaugh of Korea, Randy (Gwen) Stombaugh and Terry (Joy) Stombaugh, both of Buffalo Gap; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; foster parents; one brother; one sister; and two granddaughters.
