Rearick
January 7, 1948 – January 26, 2024
Judy Rearick, age 76, of Huron, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her memorial service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 3, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church. A family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Bonilla Cemetery. Her service will be livestreamed .
Visitation was held from 10:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church.
Judy was born January 7, 1948, to Clarence and Norma Schladweiler, on the family farm just outside of Madison, South Dakota. Her early years were spent in church, school and 4-H activities, plus doing her favorite things swimming and playing the piano. After graduating from Madison High School, Judy enrolled at South Dakota State University, where she met and later married her husband, Craig Rearick.
Together after their graduations from SDSU, Craig and Judy owned and operated a farm near Volga for several years, then a business in Sioux Falls. Eventually, they settled into a career path that had them spending a few years in several communities across South Dakota and Iowa. Judy managed their young family and made lifetime friends in all the places they lived. In 1994, Craig and Judy accepted a position with a company in Huron, and the balance of her life was lived in the Huron area.
Judy made an effort to be involved in all of the communities she lived in through church and volunteer organizations, and in school activities while their children were attending. Once in Huron, she chose to get involved in Lioness to contribute to life in the community and with the Nordby Center to celebrate her love of swimming.
In 2004, the decision was made to move on to a farm they had purchased, and the next 16 years were spent at the farm in the Bonilla area. She observed many times that it was the longest she had ever lived at one address. In 2020, the couple moved to Huron due to Judy's health reasons and they remained in Huron for the remainder of her life.
In 1982, Judy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. A life altering event, but one she faced with a quiet courage that was admired by those who knew and loved her. Over the next 42 years, MS gradually eroded her motor skills and strength and finally contributed to her death. She was determined that she would not be defined or remembered by MS, but rather by her love for and positive influence on her friends and family.
Preceding her in death are her parents; one sister, Linda Stangl; and one son, David in 2018.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband of 56 years, Craig of Huron; two daughters, Anne and Steve Pedersen of Des Moines, Iowa and Jean Rearick of Tiffin, Iowa; and one daughter-in-law, Renae Rearick-Ballard of Gillette, Wyoming.
Left to cherish her memory are her seven grandchildren, Shey Rearick, Nathan Robillard, Jacob Robillard, James Schiefer, Noah Schiefer, Matthew Schiefer and Shadi (Brandon) Brosa; two step-grandchildren, Katelyn Pedersen-Welch and Emagine Pedersen; and four great-grandchildren, Keaton Rearick-Brosa, Harper Brosa, Hadlee Brosa and Violet Welch.
Judy is also survived by one sister, Betty Oyoumick; three brothers, John (Kathy) Schladweiler, Peter Schladweiler and Karl (Deborah O'Neal) Schladweiler; and one brother-in-law, Gerald Stangl.
