Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Henkel, age 83, of Huron, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 19th at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery at Iroquois.
Joseph "Joe" Henkel was born June 8, 1935, to Emil and Marie (Gastour) Henkel at Tioga, Wisconsin. In 1942, the family moved to Iroquois, South Dakota, where Joe attended school.
On July 10, 1954, Joseph married Gila Anderberg at the St. Martin Catholic Church at Huron and have been inseparable since. In 1958, Joe and Gila moved to Huron, where they have made their home since. To this union, two daughters were born, Debbie and Vickie.
He was a route salesman for many companies throughout the years, Old Dutch being the most recent until 1987, when he purchased Joe's Pub in Wolsey. He sold Joe's Pub in 1991. Then went to work at R & R Station until retiring.
Joe was fun loving and enjoyed fishing, camping and going on drives. Family was very important and he brought joy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with his "bride" was his favorite, as well as breakfast with his friends. Joe was a man of strong faith and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Joe is survived by his wife, Gila; daughters, Debbie and her husband, Rick Syhre and Vickie and her husband, Roger Rounds; grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Jeremy Johnson, Ricky "CJ" Syhre, Derek and his wife, Tori Syhre, Jesse Rounds and special friend, Caylen Groen, Holly Rounds, and Dixie and her husband, Ryan Pedersen; great-grandchildren, Garrett Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Reese Lemke, Emma Lemke, Jack Pedersen, Ashtyn Pedersen and Max Pedersen; sisters, Esther and her husband, Cliff Pederson and Elaine Schlosser; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Henkel and Vieva Henkel; along with several nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Marie Henkel; brothers, Harold Henkel, Walter Henkel; brothers-in-law, Martin Zapp and Bob Schlosser; great-granddaughter, Luverne Lemke and nephew, Lenny Zapp.
