Joseph Amlaner, age 62, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at the Avera McKenna Hospital, Sioux Falls. His prayer service was held at 11:30 AM, Friday, August 2 at Kuhler Funeral Home, with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.

Joseph Arthur Amlaner was born August 1, 1956, to Joseph and Janet (Prutzman) Amlaner in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for 10 years.

On September 10, 1988, Joseph married Elizabeth "Betsy" Steinhilber in Rhode Island. Together the couple had three children. In 2006, the family moved to Huron, South Dakota, where Joe became a department store manager for Walmart, until he retired.

Joe loved NASCAR, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his unborn baby; one brother, John Matthew Amlaner; a niece, Rachel Swink; and both sets of grandparents.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 30 years, Betsy Amlaner of Huron; one son, Kevin (Chelsey) Amlaner of Huron; two daughters, Karen (Andrew) Amlaner and Kristen (Jacob) Roebuck, all of Huron; a son from a previous marriage, John (Melissa) Amlaner; 11 grandchildren; his parents, Joseph and Janet; three sisters, Janet Lee (Ray) Swink, Jill (Tim) Henderson, Jackie (Al) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews, all of Virginia.
