Jody Lynn Maunu was born January 9, 1973, to Michael and Patricia Maunu, at Aberdeen. She attended school at Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central.
She married Brad Schweigert and they had one daughter, MaKiah JoAnn, the love of her life. Jody worked at several retail stores at Aberdeen, then the family moved to Huron. Jody never missed an activity of MaKiah's.
On April 1, 2015, Jody married David Berg, and they made their home together at rural Yale. Jody was then employed at the Huron School District, where she found her dream job as a para-educator, teaching and advocating for special needs children and working with the Special Olympics.
Since meeting Dave, Jody renewed her faith in the Lord and was re-baptized. Together, Dave and Jody taught preschool classes at Bethel on Wednesday evenings.
Jody had a heart of gold, an infectious smile and would do anything for anyone. Jody was very creative, she enjoyed crafting and using her Cricut machine to personalize gifts. She liked making holiday gift bags for her family and the children of their church. Jody also enjoyed cooking, bowling, camping, traveling, visiting family and caring for her nephew, Booker.
In 2018, Jody was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which slowed her down a bit. On February 2, 2023, Jody had finally been approved for a long awaited gastric bypass surgery, due to some complications she passed away February 5, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael; her grandparents; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Dave, of rural Yale; her daughter, MaKiah Schweigert of Huron; her bonus children, Noelle Berg of Denver, Colorado, Amanda Swan of Denver, Colorado, Dawson Berg of Huron and Parker Berg of Huron; and their granddaughters, Elly Ketler and Alivia Swan.
Also left to cherish her memories are her mother, Patti Maunu of Aberdeen; her siblings, Michael Maunu of Webster and his family, Austin, Alex, Sr. and Alexander, Jr.; Jason Maunu of Aberdeen and his family, Morgan, Jordyn and Bentley; and Michelle Maunu of Aberdeen and her family, Jaide, Kenzie and Booker; as well as many other extended family and friends who were all close to Jody's heart.
