Obituary

Jan Rearick, age 73, of Wolsey, died Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center. His memorial service was held at 5:30 PM, Friday, March 30th at the Bonilla Presbyterian Church at Bonilla. In lieu of flowers his family prefers memorials. Jan Rearick was born July 15, 1944, at Huron, South Dakota, and grew up on the family farm west of Bonilla. He was the oldest son of Clinton and Leora Rearick. He attended Bonilla schools from kindergarten through graduation.He then attended Huron College and studied business.
He met and married Vivian Kaye DeJong in 1967.From their 25-year union they had four children, Tamey, Peggy, Jim and Jon.
Throughout his life Jan enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, trap shooting, good cooking and his grandchildren. For work, Jan picked up milk for years in east central South Dakota and then began farming on the Meyer family farm south west of Bonilla until 1982 when his family moved to Wolsey.He enjoyed elk hunting trips to Colorado, halibut fishing trip in Alaska and BMI cablevision trips to Adak Island, Alaska. He was always a voracious reader.
Late in life, Jan could be found in the tractor on the Rearick family farm and enjoyed reporting on its' progress. He also was a real estate agent with Real Estate Connection.Jan enjoyed talking about the weather, gossip around town, anticipated hunting season outcomes and most importantly what we were making for dinner.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Leora Rearick; his father, Clinton Rearick; and his son, James Richard Rearick.
Left to remember him are his children, Tamey (Julie Bent) Rearick, Peggy (Tracey) Beals and Jon (Alesha "Jonesy") Rearick; his siblings, Larry Rearick, Craig (Judy) Rearick, Anita (Bruce) Kopplin and Candy (Dan) Whittet; his grandchildren, Eric Zepp, Braydn and Sydney Beals and Ethan, Camille and Roman Rearick; his great-grandchild, James Zepp Pierce; and many cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
