James Knight, age 86, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 19th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with burial in the Prospect Hill Cemetery at Wessington Springs.
His service was live-streamed through the Kuhler Funeral Home Facebook page.
James Arthur Knight was born June 25, 1934, at Chamberlain, South Dakota, to Irving W. and Bernice (Homewood) Knight of Gann Valley, South Dakota. He was educated at Gann Valley and Brookings Ag. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was a Korean veteran, serving in the United States Army from December 1954 to December 1956, when he was honorably discharged. He was based in Texas and Chicago, Illinois.
Jim married Donna M. Schroeder on June 10, 1956, at Zion Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lane, South Dakota.
He worked on his parent's ranch, farming until March 1, 1965, when he, his wife and four children moved to a farm they purchased near Alpena, South Dakota. Two more children later joined the family. He was also a foster parent.
Jim operated a dairy for many years, farmed and did custom work. Later, he held various jobs, worked for farmers and drove truck from Huron all over the state.
In 2010, Jim and Donna moved to Huron.
Survived by his wife, Donna of Huron; six children, Gregory A Knight of Huron, Ricky (Cheri) Knight of Mitchell, Theresa (Ronald) Glissendorf of White Lake, John (Sally) Knight of Mitchell, Larry Knight of Alpena and Lynette (Casey) Rose of Lincoln, North Dakota; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Jim is also survived by one sister, Beverly (Steve) Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Eleanor King, Leanor Urban, Dorothy Willman, Donna Kirkpatrick and Beth Patton; and eight brothers, Jerry, Franklin, Harold, Wayne, Donald, Darrell, David and Roger Knight.
