James Patrick Fortin, age 54, of Rapid City, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at his home.

His wishes to be cremated will be honored by his family, and a family service will be held at a later date.

James Patrick Fortin was born November 8, 1966, to James and Donna (Parker) Fortin, at Santa Anna, California. Later the family moved to Doland, South Dakota, where James attended school. He graduated from Doland High School in 1985. He then moved to California where he has many lifelong friends. In 2008, James returned to South Dakota, residing in Rapid City to be closer to family. He enjoyed helping people decorate their homes and loved all kinds of music.  His excitement for life and storytelling was loved by everyone he knew.  He always had a way to make everyone in his life feel loved.  He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his three siblings, Michelle (Mark) Ell of Rapid City, Dale (Deb) Fortin of Huron and Shane Fortin of Doland; his step-mother, Gloria Fortin of Watertown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
