Jacqueline "Jackie" A. Sondreal, age 87, of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 14th at the Hope Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Affectionately known as G.G. to a number of her great-grandchildren, she was born Jacqueline Ann Creiman on April 9, 1931, to Jack and Anna Creiman in Walhalla, North Dakota, the youngest of four children. The family lived in Concrete, North Dakota and Jackie's father passed in 1940. She attended high school for her first two years in Mountain, North Dakota and her last two in Crystal, North Dakota where she was a boys' basketball cheerleader as well as a starter on the girls' basketball team. She graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in 1949. She then attended Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks where she received her R.N. Degree. It was while attending school in Grand Forks that she first met Donavon Sondreal.The two were married in 1951 .Jackie worked as a nurse in the hospital emergency room until the growing family moved to Bismarck, North Dakota in 1957, then to Huron, South Dakota in December of 1959. She remained in the Huron community until her passing.
Jackie enjoyed gardening and reading. She was an avid golfer, bowler and a relentless, competitive card player. She enjoyed hosting events, from neighborhood Easter egg hunts to political rallies for US Congressmen and presidential candidates. She was a long-time volunteer and cherished her time at HRMC. She loved watching her children and grandchildren compete athletically, and of course, the Minnesota Vikings. One of her greatest passions was collecting. She frequented garage sales and auctions on a regular basis and compiled many different collections; antique furniture, glassware, toys, irons and her favorite - dolls. Prior to a house fire in 2006 her amazing assortment filled several rooms and was indeed something to behold.
Jackie was preceded in death by her brothers, Loren and Lyle Creiman in 1925 and1996; her husband, Donavon in 1981; and her eldest son, Randy Sondreal in 2017.
She is survived by a sister, Donna Jean (Kenneth) Rio of Grand Forks, North Dakota;five children; Robbie (Jane) Sondreal of Huron, Thomas (Barb) Sondreal of Crookston, Minnesota, Donavon Todd (Cynthia) Sondreal of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kori (Mike) Parish of St. Paul, Minnesota and Conrad Sondreal of Mitchell, South Dakota; her daughter-in-law, Gail Sondreal of Huron; fourteen grandchildren, Jesse, Brady, Jenny and Jackie Sondreal, Nathan, Carter, Tatiana Sondreal and Alexandra Fernandez, Victoria and Cole Sondreal, and Michael, Peter, Andrew and Abby Sullivan; as well as nine great-grandchildren, Dominic, Lincoln, Cameron, Layla, Heston and Baird Sondreal and Brooke, Joseph and Jackson Sullivan.
