Jacqueline "Jackie"
Spillum
August 8, 1944 – May 30, 2026
Jacqueline “Jackie” Evelyn (Thomforde) Spillum, age 81, of Huron, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Avantara in Huron, South Dakota, with family by her side.
Jackie will be interned with her husband, Bruce at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron, South Dakota.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Evelyn (Thomforde) Spillum, was born August 8, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clifford and Evelyn (Ramstad) Thomforde. The family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where Jackie graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. She went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota.
Jackie married Bruce Spillum in Grand Forks on June 11, 1966. Early in their marriage, Jackie taught school at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Bruce and Jackie lived in Wood Lake, Minnesota and then Preston, Minnesota. In 1979, the family moved to Huron, South Dakota, where Jackie returned to teaching at Jefferson Elementary School. Following retirement, Jackie continued to be active in Riverview United Methodist Church and actively volunteered with HRMC Pink Ladies.
Jackie was a proud and longtime volunteer with the Huron Regional Medical Center Pink Ladies, where she volunteered more than 2000 hours offering comfort, guidance, and a warm smile to patients and families. Her presence in the hospital halls—steady, reassuring, and full of compassion — became a gift to many during their most difficult moments. Her service with the Pink Ladies reflected her lifelong belief in caring for others with grace and humility.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Stephanie (DaNiel) Wood of Norwalk, Iowa and Wendy (Shane) Talbott of Queen Creek, Arizona; five grandchildren, Caitlin Wood, Devin Wood, Matthew Gussiaas, Isabela Vazquez and Kylie Talbott; her sister, Kathleen (Gordon) Longmuir of Poland, Ohio; her brother, Dale (Jan) Thomforde of Pine Island, Minnesota; along with many extended family members and friends across the United States.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Spillum; and daughter, Heidi (Sergio) Vazquez.
The family requests donations be made in Jackie’s name to Huron Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. May her memory forever be a blessing!
