Jacob J. Waldner, age 86, of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice Home, Sioux Falls.

His funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 10, at Mount Olivet Church. Burial followed in the Ideal Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veteran's Council. His service was live-streamed.

His visitation was held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, June 9, at Kuhler Funeral Home.

Jacob "Jake" J. Waldner was born June 14, 1938, along with his twin brother, Paul, to parents Joseph and Susie (Walter) Waldner, at Yankton, South Dakota. Later, his family moved to Raymond, South Dakota.

He was drafted in to the United States Army in 1958 and served in Korea. In 1960, Jake was honorably discharged. Jake continued his military service with the South Dakota National Guard for 24 years, serving in the 153rd Engineer Battalion.

On May 10, 1962, Jake married Macy Ann Gross at her parent's farm near Carpenter.

Jake loved being a farm equipment mechanic. He worked at Schmidt Implement in Willow Lake, then Olsen Implement and Huron Equipment, both in Huron. Jake enjoyed talking about tractors especially the International Harvesters.

Jake was a member of Mount Olivet Church where he served as a Trustee, Usher and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #7, Huron. His favorite pastime was driving around in the country looking at the crops. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and visiting with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Macy on September 26, 2021, and many siblings.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Waldner and Linda Waldner; one son, David (Barb) Waldner; two brothers, Paul (Rosa) Waldner and George (Susie) Waldner; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
