Irene Polidori, age 87, of Huron, died Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the SunQuest Health Care Center. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 19th at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Holland, officiating. Burial was in the Ideal Cemetery.
Irene Tschetter was born March 3, 1928, to Paul I. and Anna (Hofer) Tschetter at Carpenter, South Dakota. She grew up in the Carpenter area and attended country schools through the eighth grade.
While she was in her early twenties, Irene worked at Woolworth's. It was while working there that she met the love of her life. Roney Polidori was passing through Huron on his way to re-enlist in the US Air Force and stopped in at Woolworth's. On March 30, 1947, Irene and Roney were married in Huron, South Dakota. They made their home in Huron.
Irene enjoyed being with and interacting with people of all ages. She worked at the cosmetics counter in Humphrey Drug, and later was an in-home daycare provider for twenty-seven years. She was "grandma" to many children, and she cared for both her grand-children and great-grandchildren during that time.
Irene enjoyed playing Dominos and Rummikub with her family. She was always the first one to suggest rummage sales on Saturday morning or a quick shopping trip to Sioux Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roney on August 19, 1995; four brothers, Paul in infancy, Iky, Clarence, and Delore Tschetter; and four sisters, Dorothy Becker, Pauline Hofer, Annie Bothwell, and Kathleen Ritenour.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her two daughters, Lynette (Gary) Moore and Renae Polidori, both of Redfield; two grandchildren, Tracie (Jamie) Gogolin and Nathan (Stacy) Nielsen; four great-grandchildren, Chantz Gogolin, Lake Gogolin, Logan Nielsen and Jordyn Nielsen; three sisters, Frances (Chester) Tschetter, Delores (Lester) Meyer, and Carol Wurz; two brothers, Jerome Tschetter and Calvin (Peggy) Tschetter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
