Obituary

Inez Huether-Lehr, age 98, of Watertown, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Avantara - Watertown.

Her graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 16, at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Inez Alvina Hull Huether Lehr, at the age of 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2026 while residing at the Aventara Nursing Home in Watertown, South Dakota.

Inez was born at the family farm home on August 22, 1927 near Virgil, South Dakota.

In heaven, she joined her parents: Leonard and Jeannette (Schaller) Hull, her siblings: Millie Cooper, Alvin Hull, Arlene Krueger and Lyle Hull.

Inez was the first person in her family to attend high school, which required her father to take her to and from school in Alpena with the family horse and buggy. Inez was also the first person in the family to attend college. She now broke the family record of living the longest at age 98 years of age.

On June 10, 1947, Inez married Calvin Huether. To this union two daughters were born: Marsha Jean and Laura Verlinda. During this marriage Inez and Calvin were hands-on involved in building Baptist churches and parsonages, both physical and spiritual structures, in Huron, Aberdeen, Tulare, South Dakota and Lockridge Iowa.

On November 30, 1989, Inez married Elmer Lehr. Elmer passed away a few short years later.

Leading a Christian life was of great importance to Inez. Caring for several foster children over the years was a meaningful part of her life. Over the years Inez’s varied endeavors included working at a candy factory, Armours Meats, a Bakery, Missionary work, Sunday School teacher, Telephone sales, A cook at Summer Church camps and owned and managed several homes and apartment buildings in Huron and then working with Special Needs individuals in their group homes in Huron SD and Canby MN.

Family and friends have always been important to Inez, be it playing games, gathering for reunions, or playing practical jokes on loved ones. Most might be surprised to know that she was somewhat of an artist as well as an accomplished seamstress with exquisite needle work. She was a regular at the Huron Rollerskating Rink with her rollerskates in hand until she moved to Canby, MN a few years before retiring.

A heartfelt “Thank You” to all of the wonderful and devoted nurses and staff that cared for Inez while she resided at Aventara, and especially the compassion and love you all showed Inez and her daughters and family during her final days. We sincerely thank you all.

Inez is survived by her daughters: Marsha Jean (Melroy) Wipf, Laura Verlinda (Geoff) Hawes; Grandchildren: Michelle (Richard) Schweer, Tania Hawes, Trevor Hawes; Great Grandchildren: Kendra Schweer, Kaden Schweer and Kayla Schweer. And several nieces and nephews.

Per Inez’s wishes, a family graveside prayer service will be held on May 16th (Saturday) at 1:00pm at Restlawn Cemetery in Huron, SD. In lieu of flowers or donations, Inez requested that family and friends continue her faith and share Jesus’ plan of salvation with others.

During the family graveside service, we will read messages of how Inez touched lives and if you would like to have your message shared, please email your message to: inezlehr@gmail.com

These messages of love will be read and then her favorite candy attached to each message and then placed with her urn at burial.
