Ila Eckmann, age 91, of Cavour, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019, at the SunQuest Health Care Center. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 22nd at the Riverview United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Ila Faye Meink was born January 7, 1928, to Clifford and Lucille (Barber) Meink at Lane, South Dakota. She graduated from Huron High School in 1946.
On December 28, 1947, Ila married Darold F. Eckmann at Huron. Ila worked for Northwestern National Bank and Kmart where she retired after 20 years. Ila, her husband and family operated the family farm by Cavour where she lived for nearly 60 years.
Ila was an active member of the Cavour Methodist Church and then the Riverview Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school, loved to sing in the church choir and the Sweet Adaline's Chorus and was a member of various church organizations. She was also a 4-H leader and had a passion for crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darold Eckmann on January 13, 2012; one sister, Ina Oerlline; and one brother, Ivan Meink.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her two children, Judy (Stan) Dubro of Iroquois and Doug (Peggy) Eckmann of Cavour; four grandchildren, Chad (Angel) Dubro, Julie (Andy) Boomsma, Brian (Jessica) Eckmann and Kristal (Nicholas) McKee; nine great-grandchildren, Keistan, Katie and Kera Dubro, Allyson, Mya and Rachel Boomsma, Emma Eckmann, and Ryland and Waylon McKee; one brother-in-law, Marvin (Rose) Eckmann of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
