IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Herbert
Hamilton
September 8, 1932 – June 3, 2020
Herbert Hamilton, age 87, of Huron and formerly of Wessington, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His graveside service was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 25th at the Bonilla Cemetery, Bonilla.
Herbert Hamilton was born September 8, 1932, to Wilfred and Golda (Beckler) Hamilton at Bonilla, South Dakota. He graduated from Bonilla High School in 1950.
Herb served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to farming in the Wessington area.
On August 10, 1958, Herb married Alice Schuldt at Erwin, South Dakota, and started their life together farming, raising cattle, sheep and pigs, and had a fertilizer business. They hosted over 40 trainees from more than 15 different countries, who were interested in learning more about farming and raising livestock.
Herb and Alice enjoyed travelling the USA and the world with Zip/Hubbard dealers. They visited Germany, France, Finland, Estonia, Italy, and Australia.
He served as a board member for both the Nance Township and Farmers Home Administration. He was also an active member of the Wolsey VFW. In his younger years, he was a member of a local snowmobile group.
In July 2013, Herb and Alice retired from the farm and moved to Huron. They were able to enjoy their grandchildren's many events.
Herb was blessed to experience the loving and compassionate care of "Anne's Angels" for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice on July 22, 2018; his brother, R. Wayne Hamilton; and his sister, Joyce Dynes.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his two sons and their wives, Scott and Paula Hamilton of Hitchcock and Jeff and Suzanne Hamilton of Wessington; and seven grandchildren, Nicole (Andrew) Roth, April, Grant, Kyle, John (fiancé, Nikiah Whitley), Mark, and Kate Hamilton.
Herb was a provider and always looking to the future. The day he passed, there were soybeans to plant, hay to make, cattle to feed and business to transact. Go and rest now, your work here is done.
God has a plan for each of us. This plan is compiled of individual pieces and how these pieces fit together is truly amazing. Memories, good and bad, become part of our lives and when stitched together become our story. We would like everyone to take a moment to share an event that they remember of Herb to help us find pieces of the puzzle that we did not know were missing. Thank you in advance for your help.
