Henry "Hank" Thomas Sievers, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Avantara-Huron, at the age of 82.
His memorial service was held Wednesday, July 3 at 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church, Huron, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. His service was live-streamed.
Henry Thomas Sievers was born September 5, 1941, on the family farm near Wessington, South Dakota, to parents, Draper and Christabelle (Mitchell) Sievers. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Wessington High School in 1959.
On December 23, 1962, Hank married Jacqueline Chipman at Sun Beam Church, north of Vayland, South Dakota. They made their home on the same family farm Hank grew up on, raising their five children, Chris, Jeff, Dena, Sara and Joe. Hank was a farmer, carpenter and mechanic. Hank and Jackie retired from farming in 1996 and moved to Huron.
Hank served on several boards for the Wessington community, including 25 years on the Wessington School Board. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington and then the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Hank was also a member of the Wessington Masonic Lodge.
Hank enjoyed woodworking, going to auctions and spending time with his grandchildren especially taking them fishing and to watch car races. During his journey in life, he always found the greatest joy in helping family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Draper and Christabelle Sievers; one brother, James Sievers; one sister, Mary Gohring; and two brothers-in-law, Bud Sulser and Kenneth "Tiny" Gohring.
He is survived by his devoted family - his wife of 61 years, Jackie; five children, Christine and Paul Duxbury of Wessington, Jeffery and Brenda Sievers of Wolsey, Dena Sievers of Aberdeen, Sara and Robert Van Roe of Virginia and Joseph Sievers of Wessington; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Sulser of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
