Helen Phillips, age 80, of Huron, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Her funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 7 at the American Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery. Her service was live-streamed.

Visitation was held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Monday at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Helen Anderson was born on December 29, 1945, to Harry and Ethel Anderson in Huron, South Dakota. She graduated from Huron High School in 1963 and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from South Dakota State University. She enjoyed many lunches with her father at the Chef Café near the Huron Post Office.

Throughout her life, Helen taught school, worked at the Huron Public Library, and after her retirement, she also worked at McDonald’s. In 1980, she married Richard Phillips at the Church of Christ. When they were younger, Helen and Richard enjoyed traveling together. During retirement, their outings often included visits to McDonald’s and Taco John’s. Helen also enjoyed reading and tending to the tiger lilies in her yard.

She was an active member of Mizpah Chapter #9, Order of the Eastern Star.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria (Duane) Moody, and her brothers Norman (Arlene) Anderson and Roger (Joyce) Anderson.

Her husband, Richard of Huron; her brother, Dale (Carol) Anderson of Alexandria, Virginia; her family; and many relatives and friends who were dear to her are grateful for having shared her life. Helen touched countless lives with her kindness, warmth, and quiet generosity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
