Helen Joyce Estes, age 81, of Huron, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 7th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Helen Joyce Stanfield was born to Dean and Grace (Butts) Stanfield near Artesian on October 15, 1936. She received her education in country schools graduating from Afton Township # 2 in 1952. She left the family farm and moved to Huron, graduating from Huron High School in 1957. She was employed with St. John's Hospital (HRMC) from 1953 to 1958.
In 1958, Helen moved to Los Angeles, California where she was employed with Western Union at Los Angeles and Carson until her retirement in 1988.
Helen was married to James McBain in 1967 in California until his death in 1977. In 1989, she married Conrad Estes and they moved to Huron in 1990. He died in 1994.
She was an active bowler during her years in California and in Huron. She belonged to the 500 Club and the 70 Club. She also enjoyed visiting with people about her adventures throughout her life.
Helen was employed by the Plainsman as a paper carrier.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her brother, Robert Stanfield of Wessington; four sisters, Betty Seter of Billings, Montana, Alice Joy of Aberdeen, Janet Bobeldyke, and Donna Stanfield, all of Huron; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces that she loved very much.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and her brothers, Eldon Stanfield, Ralph Stanfield and Bruce Stanfield.
