Helen Marie Dufek, age 88, of Huron, formerly of Geddes, died peacefully in her sleep, Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 28th at the United Methodist Church, Geddes. Burial was in the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Geddes.
Helen Marie Wepking was born April 28, 1928, to Lula and Henry Wepking in Geddes, South Dakota. She attended school in Geddes and graduated from Geddes High School.
On May 31, 1946, she married Frank Dufek, Jr. at Geddes. They farmed in the Geddes area until 1980 when they moved into town. Helen and Frank moved to Huron in 2010 to be closer to family.
Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards with her friends, church activities, Minnesota Twins baseball, and spending time with loved ones.
She is survived by sons, Larry (Donna) Dufek of Pender, Nebraska and Rick (Susan) Dufek of Huron; grandchildren, Dean (Rhona) Dufek of Lyons, Nebraska, Troy (Tammy) Dufek of Colome, Jay (LeeAnne) Dufek of Castlewood, Angie (Eric) Remington, Christy (Scott) Bales, and Becky (Justin) Picek, all of Huron; 25 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Claire Bartekoske; and two brothers, Leo and Fred Wepking.
