Harlan Tschetter, age 81, of Hitchcock, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 8 at Mount Olivet Church. Burial was in the church section of Ideal Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to James Valley Christian School.
Harlan D. Tschetter was born to Dave and Bertha (Tschetter) Tschetter in Huron, South Dakota, on October 13, 1937. Harlan attended Fairfield Township School through the eighth grade and then started farming with his dad on the family farm.
Harlan accepted Christ into his life at a young age and served his Lord with all his heart. He married the love of his life, Rose Mary (Wallman) Tschetter on June 23, 1959, at the Huron Mission Church, Huron, South Dakota. He was a member of Fairfield Bethel Church until it closed and then joined Mount Olivet Church.
Along with being a lifelong farmer, Harlan served as Treasurer for the James Valley Christian School board, an usher for Mount Olivet Church and a representative for Mennonite Mutual Aid Insurance. Harlan was a loving Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great Papa who loved to visit and tell many stories of his life experiences and lessons he had, and "most" of it was true! One of his favorite past times was driving around the countryside to keep an eye on the crops, cattle and farms.
Some highlights of Harlan's life were several trips to Branson, Missouri, attending a Rose Bowl Parade in California, and a John Deere Gold Key Tour at Moline, Illinois.
Harlan is survived by his two children, Vanessa Johnson and Kevin (Peggy) Tschetter; four grandchildren Mariah (Christopher Calderon) Johnson, Madison Johnson, Mara (Dan) Norby, and Kayla Tschetter; two great-grandchildren, KinLee Jo & Tayten John Norby; one brother-in-law, DeLor Stahl; one niece Delphia (Rev. Gordon) Wiebe; two nephews, Delvin (Winona) Stahl and Delroy Stahl; and honorary family, the Lance Loban Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Rose Mary Tschetter; one sister, Delores Stahl; and one brother, Milton Tschetter.
