Grace Hornig, age 87, of Huron, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the Avera St. Mary's Hospital at Pierre. Her funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 25th, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Trinity Cemetery at Yale.
Grace Marion Hofer was born April 29, 1929, to Mike K. and Anna (Gross) Hofer at home on the family farm north of Yale, South Dakota.
On December 11, 1947, Grace married Clinton Hornig at Yale. They made their home on their farm north of Yale where she lived until 2010 when she moved to Huron.
Grace worked along side of Clinton on the farm. Grace was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Yale and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. She was always active in LWML and helping at the Church as needed. Grace's passion was her grandchildren, who all loved visiting Grandma, especially at the farm, and enjoying her fresh baked buns, rolls, cookies, cakes, pies, dill pickles, and all her delicious meals. Many other relatives, neighbors and friends also enjoyed her wonderful hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clinton, on May 31, 2007; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her three children and their families, Rod (Nancy) Hornig of Rapid City and family, Angel (Matt Hackett) Benson and children, Skye Warwick and Ciara Benson, Nathan (Laurie) Hornig and children, Trevor, Blake, Taylor and River, Brigitte (Josh) McNames and children, Ella and Owen, Andrea (Brent) Scheele and children, Cooper and Quinn, Beau (Nikki) Hornig and children, Easton and Aubree Larson, Nicci (Chris) Builan and daughter, Nora, Angie (Hank) Barden and children, Tyler Schinderling, Kayla Henson and Jacob Russell, Steve (Melissa) Picchietti and children, Alicia and Carson, and Matt (Blair) Picchietti and children, Gavin, Nolan and Owen; Judy (Larry) Coyle of Pierre and family, Shannon Coyle and daughter, Ayla, Melissa (Tom) Schultz and children, Kailee and Christopher, Valerie (Theron) Hawley and children, Gavin and Isabelle, Brandon Coyle and daughter, Ayana McCormick; and Bill (Wenda) Hornig of Yale and family, Clinton (Christy) Hornig and children, Keegan, Aiden and Addison, Ashley (Alex Reppe) Hornig and daughter, Alayna, Kyle Hofer and Kim (Chad Rainford) Hofer. Grace is also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially Monica Hofer who spent countless hours helping and being with Grace after she moved to Huron and Ron Weidner who was always available to help out where needed.
