Grace Hale, age 99, of Huron, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. Her funeral service will be at 2 PM Wednesday, February 25th, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Maxted, officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Grace V. Hale was born on July 28, 1915, to Benjamin and Florence (Seebeck) Binger at Tulare. She grew up there and graduated from Tulare High School in 1933. Grace then worked in Huron doing housework for various people.
She married Alfred Peterson of Huron. Grace worked a number of different jobs some of which were the lunch counter at the "Wigwam" for Huron College, the Council Oaks Store, and at Woolworth's for nine years. Grace also managed the Gold Bond Stamp Redemption Center for twelve years. On April 15, 1957, she married Harry Hale and they lived in Huron. Following Harry's retirement they opened the Hobby House and operated that until 1978. Grace moved to Dakota Plaza in July 2001 and to Country View Estates in 2012.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry on November 30, 1973; one brother, Cecil Binger in December 1997, her only sister, Gayle Bean in January 2011; and her grandson, Randy Peterson.
Survivors include her four children, Alan (Gayle) Peterson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Leon (Gayle) Peterson of Redway, California, Jan (Sharon) Peterson of Ft. Bragg, California, and Brian (Kristi) Hale of Huron; seven grandchildren, Lance (Carla), Douglas, Linda, Jesse, and Shay Peterson, Janna (Kevin) O'Hern, and Garry Hale; one brother, Robert (Clarice) Binger of Sioux Falls; three stepchildren, Judy (Ken) Hamen of St. Paul, Minnesota, Vicki Shafer of Huron, and Edward (Connie) Hale of Omaha, Nebraska; and a number of nieces and nephews.
