Gila Henkel, age 85, of Huron, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 12th at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery at Iroquois.  Her service was live-streamed through the Kuhler Funeral Home website.

Visitation was held from 2:00 to 6:30 PM, Monday, July 11th at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with family present from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. A scripture service was held at 6:30 PM Monday evening at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Gila Rae Anderberg was born December 28, 1936, to Carl and Myrtle Anderberg at Miller, South Dakota. Gila attended country school and Huron High School.

On July 10, 1954, Gila married Joseph "Joe" Henkel at the St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron, and were inseparable prior to his passing on October 14, 2018. In 1958, Gila and Joe moved to Huron, where they have made their home since. To this union, two daughters were born, Debbie and Vickie.

Gila is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Rick) Syhre and Vickie (Roger) Rounds; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Johnson, Ryan (Ashley) Syhre, Ricky "CJ" (Becky) Syhre, Derek (Tori) Syhre, Jesse (Caylen) Rounds, Holly Rounds and Dixie (Ryan) Pedersen; great-grandchildren, Garret Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Reese Lemke, Ulises Ministro, Emma Lemke, Jack Pedersen, Ashtyn Pedersen, Max Pedersen, Jaxon Smythurst, Reagan Smythurst, Lincoln Smythurst, Parker Syhre and Maggie Syhre; brother-in-law, Cliff Pedersen; sister-in-law, Elaine Schlosser; along with several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joyce Price and Marv Claussen.

Gila was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Myrtle Anderberg; sisters, Ila Mae Austin and Beverly Shoultz; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Henkel, Vieva Henkel and Esther Pedersen; brothers-in-law, Harold Henkel, Walter Henkel, Martin Zapp and Bob Schlosser; and great-granddaughter, Luverne Rae Lemke.
