George Reinschmidt, age 88, of Plano, Texas and formerly of Yale, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021.

His graveside service was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 18th at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, north and east of Yale.

George H Reinschmidt was born in Huron, South Dakota, on November 25, 1933, the son of Adam and Ruth (nee Ulrich) Reinschmidt of Yale, South Dakota. Baptized as an infant in Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Yale, he was later confirmed at Trinity. He attended Scheele Elementary School in Foster Township, Beadle County, South Dakota.

In 1951, he graduated from Yale High School, valedictorian of his class. After one year at Huron College, he transferred to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, graduating in 1955 with a BA in Accounting degree. After a brief employment as an accountant with Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1955 to 1957. Upon his honorable discharge he was hired as a public accountant by the Ernst and Ernst accounting firm in Des Moines, Iowa, where he served until being hired by the Freeman Company in Dallas, Texas, in 1963. A Certified Public Accountant, he served as Treasurer of the company and also as a member of its Board of Directors. He retired in 1999.

His only surviving brother, the Rev. Dr. Howard M. Reinschmidt of Rochester, Minnesota, and his only surviving sister, Gail F. Schultz of Livonia, Michigan, describe their brother as a modern Renaissance man, accomplished and knowledgeable in many far-reaching disciplines. He played trumpet, piano and organ, serving as organist at an Army chapel in Ft. Benning, Georgia, as well as 40 years as organist and choir director at his beloved Bethel Lutheran Church in Dallas. He was an avid devotee of classical music, opera and theater, rarely missing a Dallas Symphony or a Dallas Bach Society concert.

His extensive travels took him to many a musical or theatrical performance in London, Berlin, Vienna, Prague, and Paris, as well as New York and other eastern cities. An inveterate traveler, he visited every US state, every continent, and at least 100 countries. He also loved taking photos of Texas Court Houses. He read extensively, especially European and American history, and had a keen interest in politics and current affairs. Another interest was railroading, taking long passenger train trips in the US and Canada, culminating in a long trip across the USSR on the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Just a few months before his death he was planning a rail trip across Australia. He hosted numerous trips abroad with his sister, Gail and her husband, Robert, and later with his brother, Howard and his wife, Connie. George never married.

He is survived by his sister, Gail; his brother, Howard and sister-in-law, Connie; and his sister-in-law, Janis Andol.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Ruth Reinschmdt; his sister, Mary Alice and her husband, Alvin Walz; his brother, Paul Reinschmidt, and his brother-in-law, Robert Schultz.

He is also mourned by his long-time friend, fellow CPA, and Freeman Company colleague, Derek Goff and his wife, Christa and their family.
