Gary Williams, age 71, of Huron and formerly of Wessington, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 23rd at the American Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Wolsey Cemetery at a later date.
Gary Edward Williams was born May 25, 1945, to Edward and Edna Mae (Langbehn) Williams at Huron. Gary attended school at Wessington and graduated from Wessington High School. After he graduated from South Dakota Barber College, he practiced as a barber in Wessington, Wolsey and Alpena. He enjoyed being a barber and continued his work throughout the years as a hobby.
In 1967, Gary married Maryl Rex. To this union two daughters, Brenda and Sherry, were born.
He was employed at Flannery Beef from 1973 to 1984. In 1984, Gary joined his parents on the family farm near Wessington. In 1997, Gary married Georgia Boswell Sutten at Huron, and made their home near Wessington. After Gary retired from farming in 2012, they moved to Huron.
Gary enjoyed fishing, car restoration, carpentry and spending time with his dogs. Gary also enjoyed friendly conversations with his Wessington C-Store card players and his Donut Shoppe buddies. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Connie Pownell in 1980.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Georgia Williams of Huron; two daughters, Brenda (Brad) Stabler of Strasburg, North Dakota and Sherry (Ralph) Newton of Huron; three step-daughters, Sheila Sutten of Huron, Shari (Brian) Troth of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Stephanie Cremers of Huron; five grandchildren, Jerik (Kenzie) Stabler of Letcher, Alyssa Stabler of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jon Stabler of Strasburg, North Dakota, Terrell Newton of Huron and Jazmin Newton of Huron; five step-grandchildren, Kelsey Fuglsang of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Kami (Damon) Fuglsang of Pierre, Morgan Troth of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Ashley (Jaime) Koopman of Yankton and Samantha (Denali) Black of Wolsey; four great grandchildren, Jayda, Jerika, Aleena and Brielle; six step great grandchildren, Cayden, Cameron, Tatum, Claire, Olive and Rory; one brother-in-law, Robert (Donna) Pownell of Huron; one nephew, Ryan Pownell of Sioux Falls; and two nieces, Kirstan Pownell of Huron and Nichol Townsend of Warner.
