Gary Mies, age 61, of Huron, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at his home. Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
Gary Peter Mies was born November 8, 1957, to Peter "Pete" and Carol (Stetzig) Mies. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron High School.
From 1982 until 1985, Gary served in the United States Army. He earned the rank of Sargent and served a tour duty in Germany. He often spoke highly of his brothers in arms and believed very strongly of patriotism and this great country. His time spent in the Army were some of the best years of his life.
Gary had many jobs throughout the years. He was a salesman at a camper and RV dealership in Greensville, South Caroline. And also worked at boat repair center as a supervisor for Yamaha motors. At one time, he owned and managed Gary's Rental Supply in Charleston, South Carolina. In 2010, Gary returned to South Dakota for some peace and quiet.
Early on, Gary developed a love for music and played the bass guitar. He enjoyed traveling, especially to South Carolina and Las Vegas. He was fond of trips with his family to the beach, camping, fishing and long road trips. Gary was a talented story teller and just a fun person to be around.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Gary is survived by his wife, Andrea Mies of Huron, three children, Grant (Gwen) Mies of South Carolina, Randy Mies and Cynthia Mies, both of California; and his seven grandchildren, Kylee Mies, Liam Mies, Elizabeth Mies, Layla Eanes, Roman Eanes, Atticus Eanes and Winter Davis.
