Gary A.
Hartley
July 13, 1943 — September 24, 2026
Sioux Falls, SD
Gary Allen Hartley, age 83, peacefully passed away at his Sioux Falls assisted living home Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Gary was a resident of Huron South Dakota most of his life. He was the third son of Paul Hartley and Bessie Walraven born July 13, 1943. Gary was proceeded in death by his parents, Paul and Bessie and his brothers Harold and Hollis. His brother Harold was tragically lost at the age of 16 due to a football injury which left a deep sadness throughout Gary's life.
Gary attended Huron McKinley Elementary School, Huron Junior High and graduated from Huron Senior High School with distinction in the class of 1961. He continued his study at Wessington Springs Junior College in 1963 as a gifted violin performer and scholar. Gary always had great respect for his cousin Velmer for his military service and enjoyed playing basketball and rubber rafting with his cousin Roger during his youth. His varied career in service to the Huron community was diverse and compassion centered, including public transportation service to those in need.
Gary is survived by 2nd Cousin Velmer Zeigler, Valda McGaughey Jackson, Arlene Vollenweider Britton, and Roger McGaughey along many others throughout the family tree.
Gary's extended family holds him in our hearts with prayer of the 23rd Psalm that though He maketh you to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth you beside the still waters, He restores your soul, He leads you to the paths of righteousness and His namesake, and though you walk through the valley of shadow of death, you will fear no evil, and that you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Due to the unavailability of immediate family, a formal funeral celebration of life service will not be held. All who knew and were touched by Gary's life are invited to share a memory or a story on the kuhlerfuneralhome.com website.
