Gary Eichstadt, age 61, of Chamberlain and formerly of Wolsey, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at the Sanford Care Center at Chamberlain.
His funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 25th at St. John's Lutheran Church, Wolsey. The service can be viewd from the church's live streaming website at: http://stjohnslutheran.sermon.net/main/main/21560485
Gary Ray Eichstadt was born March 24, 1959, to Ervin and Gloria (Eckenbarger) Eichstadt at Huron. He was the oldest of four children. He attended school in Wolsey and graduated in 1978.
Gary met Marla Schnabel and they were united in marriage on December 27, 1980. Gary was blessed with three sons and a daughter.
Gary was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was an elder until he moved to Chamberlain.
Gary's life work involved agriculture in one way or another. He was a custom harvester with his dad and uncle, owner of Eichstadt Trucking while working with his sons, and a farmer. He last worked for Duane and David Struck until November 2015.
In March of 2016, after extension rehabilitation therapy, Gary moved to Chamberlain. He lived on his own and worked at the Chamberlain Food Center until February 2018, when he became a resident at the Sanford Care Center.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and an uncle, Marlin Affeldt.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Eichstadt of Sioux Falls, Amy File of Greenville, Illinois, Gig (Leslie) Eichstadt of Chamberlain, Bret (Kim) Eichstadt of Huron; his sisters, Carol (Ed) Klich of Huron, Gail Eichstadt of Huron and Christa (Jeff) Horn of Wolsey. He is also survived by an uncle, Ron (Penny) Eichstadt of Wolsey; an aunt, Margaret Affeldt of Wykoff, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary's pride and joy were his 18 grandchildren, Baylie Anderson-Alegria, Keaton and McKenna Eichstadt, Eric, Autumn and Kadi File, Brooke (Kaiden) White Bear, Tyann Steckelberg, Kiera and Madi Eichstadt, Reece and Sutton Schweigert, Kaydance Eichstadt, Ryker Sawvell, and Lane, Adalida and Delilah Eichstadt; and his 4 great-grandkids, Ainhoa Alegria, Noah File, Rehme Pickner and McKoy White Bear.
