Obituary

Frances Kallenberger, age 94, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Avantara - Huron.

 A private family funeral service was held Monday, May 24th at the Kuhler Funeral Home.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the  Huron Regional Medical Center Home Health/Hospice, the Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation Scholarship Fund-Healthcare  or the First Congregational Church, 505 California Ave SW, Huron.

Frances Doerr was born February 10,1927, to Jacob and Katherina (Burrer) Doerr at McPherson County, Eureka, South Dakota. Frances attended country schools and graduated from the 8th grade.

On July 7, 1946, Frances married Floyd Kallenberger. They farmed with his parents, living on a farmstead about a half mile from his family's farm. They had two children, Jerald and Wanda.

In the spring of 1953, Floyd began working part-time for the Soil Conservation Service, and in May of 1957, Floyd accepted a full-time position in Murdo, South Dakota. In February 1960, they moved to Parkston and then moved to Menno, South Dakota in 1963. Then in May of 1964, Floyd was transferred to the State Office in Huron, South Dakota where she has resided since that time. They developed many long- lasting friendships throughout the years.

In October 2008, they sold their home and moved to a Twin Home on 22nd St SW. She enjoyed her new home and loved entertaining family and friends.

Frances was a homemaker and mother, raising their two children, Jerald and Wanda with Floyd. Over the years she was a member of the Huron Area Senior Center, a RSVP Volunteer and a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing games and caring for her grandchildren, cooking, baking, crocheting, playing dominoes and playing in several card clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Kallenberger in 2016; two brothers, Oscar Doerr and Willie (Viola) Doerr; three sisters, Loretta (August) Bender, Irene (Walter) Schelkau and Alice (Harvey) Kurle; and one daughter-in-law, Janell Kallenberger.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Jerald (Patti) Kallenberger, Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Wanda (Rick) Hoffman, Huron; four grandchildren, Joy (Naser) Abu-Shanab, St. Louis, Missouri, Jeff (Naomi) Kallenberger, Springfield, Missouri, Sara (Adam) Hicks, Sioux Falls and Josh (Mattie)Hoffman, Sioux Falls; four step-grandchildren, Jesse (Neil) Huggins, Bucyrus, Ohio, Jacob Hash (Joanna Jones), Lyndhurst, Ohio, Stephen Hash, Mount Vernon, Ohio and Ginny (Josh) Leffel, Tallmadge, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Alia Abu-Shanab, Gabe, Alec and Ashley Kallenberger, Cooper and Emery Hicks and Jack Hoffman; two step-great-grandchildren, Alice and Henry Huggins; and one step-great-grandchild Huggins due November 2021.

Frances is also survived by two sisters, Bernice Franklund, Wilton, North Dakota and Delores Thurn, Wishek, North Dakota; her brother-in-law, Dale Kallenberger, Casa Grande, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
